And then there were three. And then there were Sue William Silverman and Tayari Jones, who graciously hand-selected a four-course menu of fine prose for us, for you. And then there was Amanda Yskamp, her sledgehammer hoisted giddily, her words burst and blown nearly beyond our margins (seriously, open to page 127, squint, and you might see stray marks of punctuation rising to infiltrate your usual lungy meet-cute). And then came Sarah Z. Wexler, hand-in-hand with her one-quarter-Chickahominy psychic interview subject (who, we assume, broke the news of this story’s publication to her before she even submitted). And then came Denise Duhamel, tending to the beasts, great and toy; and Mark DeCarteret, bringing some one-time-use spite to bear on your dad (yours!); and Fernand Roqueplan, and Fernand Roqueplan (and Fernand Roqueplan), and so many others. More than ever, even. So many, in fact, that it took no less than three 60s-era nuclear physics diagrams to enumerate and organize them all. And so there were three. It’s been a long time coming. We’ve even opted to drip a little pink ink on it, a decision we never could have forseen ourselves making a year ago. It’s yours forever, dears, from the bottom of our three pink-inky hearts. Add this to your library cart and push ‘til the wheels fall off.

Caketrain is a literary journal and press based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our interest is in bringing you, reader, the very best in contemporary creative writing, full stop. Our goals are for each issue of our journal to submerge you in a birthing tank for gelatinous language monsters, young masses of tentacular foci undulating as directed (in all, at once) by our eclectic stable of contributors; for each new book to seduce and ensnare you, sometimes intangibly, always undeniably; and for you, reader, to be able to draw at least one passage from our banks that prods your mind with a precision and power that feels as if it was written for your eyes alone. To wit and to whet, here is a snippet, a slight nip of our delicious lit mix:
